Here is a funny question to start today’s post. How are your teeth? Do you have cavities? Do you brush your teeth faithfully? What about flossing? How much sugar do you consume? If I’m not careful, I will soon sound like a dental hygenist.
In our family’s experience I can not underestimate the importance of good dental hygiene starting as soon as they are born. After three horrible surgeries on my daughter’s teeth all by five years of age, her mouth is missing eight of her teeth and she has twelve crowns. When she smiles, there are gaping holes. Cosmetically speaking, her teeth are a disaster. I’m glad though that even though her smile is not perfect, it certainly hasn’t affected her dynamic personality. Yes, they are only baby teeth but if you don’t take care of the baby teeth, this affects the adult teeth. So today both of my kids are off to the dentist, my two-year old included! Good dental care not only helps your health, it also impacts your appearance as well as your pocketbook!
This makes me think of Proverbs 10:26
“As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes,
So is the lazy man to those who send him.”
We never meant to be lazy in caring for my daughter’s teeth but since we didn’t care for them when we first thought we should her teeth were rapidly deteriorating. Vinegar is very acidic and acid eats teeth. Smoke burns the eyes. So what this verse is saying is that neglecting things never pays. Today, if there are things in your life that need attention; do it now! You won’t regret it!
